The East Building of the National Gallery of Art stands out in Washington, DC as a modern marvel, sleekly contrasting with the Beaux Arts and Classical architecture seen throughout much of the nation’s capital. The unusual trapezoidal site dictated a unique design which architect I.M Pei resolved using a combination of triangles. Completed in 1978; I.M. Pei, architect.
Honorable Mention: Architecture, Professional, Monochrome Awards, 2021.
