Dome Procession
Crowning the colonnade surrounding the courtyard, the Macedonian marble domes seem to march in procession towards the main prayer hall of the Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque.
The Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque sits majestically at the entrance to Abu Dhabi City Island, symbolic of the connection the Mosque has to UAE citizens. The mosque combines Mamluk, Ottoman and Fatimid styles, and features 82 domes of various sizes clad with SIVEC marble from Macedonia and crescent shaped finials decorated with gold-glass mosaic. The burial place of the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, first President of the UAE, is located beside the mosque.
